Composer's Corner I John "Stormy" Winter
website
Born in Edinburgh in 1954, he began learning with a private tutor at the age of eight. During his piping career he has played with several bands from Novice Juvenile to Grade 1. He is proud to have played with Strathclyde Police Pipe Band during their "glory years" of the 1980's and was one of the players when this band won six world championships in a row between 1981 and 1986, a feat as yet unbeaten by any other pipe band.

The experience he has gained is vast and extensive covering pipe bands, solo piping and playing for dancers. He holds the RSPBA Advanced Piping Certificate, plays bellows blown Scottish Smallpipes and writes his own compositions.

He has appeared on TV and radio and has travelled the world as a solo piper and with bands. He is honoured to have been part of many prestigious events over the years and to have entertained numerous people including heads of state and members of the Royal family with his bagpipes.
