Tone Enhancers by R.T. Shepherd & Son

Item ID: A24

Price: £15.66 inc postage

These I believe were the first tone enhancer to come onto the market, Bob Shepherd yet again leading the way to benefit pipers from around the world. I must admit to being sceptical about this product when it came onto the market. It is sometimes difficult trying to have an open mind whilst trying to maintain tradition. Tone Enhancers were brought about to "solve" the problem of pipers not being able to make clean "cut offs" with the then new synthetic pipe bags i.e. Canmore pipe bags made from goretex material.

With synthetic bags and plastic drone reeds came a new problem, one of untidy trailing drones. My personal opinion is to teach pipers how to do clean cuts, then if they are struggling to use these as the solution, but not to ignore the fact that piper should be trained on how to do things the "traditional way".

This product is a boon because it not only solves the trailing drone problem, but also quietens the drones thereby using less air making the bagpipe an easier proposition for the learner piper to get going.

As confirmation of the success of this product is needed then one has only to look at other companies that have copied this fine and innovative product.
